Omya acquires European thermoplastics distributor Distrupol from GPD Companies
GPD Companies, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Distrupol to Omya, a leading global producer of essential minerals and distributor of specialty chemicals and materials. The acquisition by the Switzerland-based Omya Group fits with their strategic aim of strengthening their plastics distribution business worldwide.
This strategic acquisition enables us to deliver greater value to customers and principals, providing them with the stability, reliability, products and services they require in future.

Distrupol has been a leading European distributor of thermoplastics and elastomers for 60 years or so. Over the last three years, the company has pursued an aggressive growth strategy, with the acquisitions of Baritec AB and Lautrup Chemical in the Nordic region and the expansion of its operations into Germany, France, Spain, and Italy, adding to its presence in the UK, Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux, and Egypt.
The acquisition of Distrupol has expedited Omya's decision to launch a new dedicated business specialising in polymer distribution, Omya Performance Polymer Distribution. The new business will combine Omya's existing European footprint in engineered materials with Distrupol strengthening the company's pan-European presence. Omya Performance Polymer Distribution will be led by Carsten Harms, a recognised expert in polymer distribution with over 30 years' industry experience.
“This strategic acquisition enables us to deliver greater value to customers and principals, providing them with the stability, reliability, products and services they require in future. I am looking forward to working with the team at Omya and our new colleagues from Distrupol as we build a truly global polymer distribution platform, representing leading, innovative manufacturers,” said Carsten Harms CEO of Omya Performance Polymer Distribution.
“GPD is pleased with the tremendous success Distrupol has achieved under our ownership. We believe that Omya offers a great home for Distrupol's long-term future and wish the team continued success,” added Kurt Schuering, CEO of GPD.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions and is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2025.
